recent scribbles

I feel like my art is moving away from image and text and more towards just text and fabric manipulation.  I feel that images as with colour can dramatically control how an image can be perceived often taking it in a completely different direction. I like the ambiguity and abstraction that fabric manipulation brings.
There is a sense of the internal journey memory takes.

A completed commission

Another commission completed. The image was where the marriage proposal took place.

My work featured online ...

I know this is an old post but I realised that I never re-blogged it. I'm always telling my students that when someone promotes you, remember to publicise it, so here goes.

Thank you Mr Stitch!

After a little break in East Sussex

After spending a few days down south with my folks and doing family stuff, such as eating, resting, chatting & sleeping, eating, resting, chatting & sleeping, eating, resting, chatting & sleeping ... oh yes plus paddle boarding and swimming in the sea with my bestest friend the lovely and completely unique Miss Saunders, wish we lived closer, miss you xx

During my short break in East Sussex, I received an email congratulating me on being accepted for the Midland Art Centre Christmas Fair on the 13th December. I was rather chuffed as this is exactly the sort of thing I feel I should be focusing on, more up market fairs.

Experimenting with print and text.

The last few days of work were bliss. I abandoned all essential planning and ran with screen and squeegee in hand to do much needed experimental print work. These images I took with my phone, so they lack detail. I'm still waiting for a decent photography day so that I can photograph them well. Meanwhile these images will have to do.
Quite happy with the outcome of these but the problem is I do not know what to do with the large body of work I've manged to do in just those two days. So watch this space for developments with print ...

I have a piece of artwork currently on show at Wolverhampton, The Lighthouse until late September

The work in progress. This is the piece shown at Agile
Flyer

some of my textile artwork currently on show and sale at Craft in the Bay, Cardiff

a new beginning

Had a bit of a break from my blog. Had a bit of a break from life ... reality ... slowly but surely getting back.

Tuesday 12 February, 6pm
Ikon hosts an Open Platform event for Artangel’s new £1 million initiative Open.
Open is a call for artists working in any media to share proposals for ground-breaking projects that will transform the UK's cultural landscape through new site-specific commissions.

If you're a visual artist, filmmaker, writer, composer, theatre maker, choreographer, producer or an artist working in the digital space, this is your opportunity to hear about the opportunities Open offers, meet with Artangel's Co-Director, James Lingwood, Artangel Producer Rob Bowman and artist Roger Hiorns and start to think about what Open could mean to you.

Following an initial presentation and discussion there will be a chance to talk informally with the Artangel team.

Places are free but should be reserved by calling Ikon on 0121 248 0708.

For more information about Open please visit artangel.org.uk/open

Open is commissioned by Artangel in association with BBC Radio 4 and Arts Council England.
